About Barista-Essentials

Read below how Barista-Essentials started in 2020 because we were going nuts with plastic tools and coffee snobs, and how we have since helped thousands of home baristas on their way to their tastiest coffee at home.

Your best coffee at home

Barista-Essentials makes good coffee at home accessible to everyone.

We do this by providing you with the right barista tools for your machine and helping you with the information you need to use them properly.

We guide you through the coffee world, full of plastic accessories, confusing information and annoying snobbery, to your very best coffee at home.

How it began

Some home baristas lack the tools, others the knowledge. We (Hugo and Jasper) have been helping them both as Barista-Essentials since 2020.

When you buy an espresso machine, you are inundated with ingenious tips and gadgets, only to find out that these don’t always make your coffee taste better.

We also stumbled onto this problem when we started out as home baristas.

Hugo was particularly annoyed by the mediocre quality and absurd price of the tools on offer.

And Jasper ran into the unhelpfulness of fellow home baristas on the internet, who made brewing a good espresso seem more difficult than it is.

With Barista-Essentials, we wanted to solve these 2 problems, by offering good tools and useful information to home baristas of any level.

Our mission

We aim to guide home baristas to their tastiest coffee at home, with the right tools and practical information.

Barista-Essentials stands for:

✔ Quality of our barista tools, which we develop and improve ourselves. This also allows us to continue to offer you a fair price.

Every home barista. We help you regardless of your knowledge, level and the price tag of your machine

✔ Learning by doing. And if you don’t succeed, we’re happy to help you out.

Product development

Since 2023, we’ve been developing our own tools for home baristas.

We usually start by carefully designing a solid base tool. From there, we improve the design based on our own experience and the feedback we get from our customers.

In 2023, we teamed up with Studio Jawel to give several tools a sleek new look and added functionality.

One example: our coffee distributor is now easier to adjust in depth thanks to the new design.

Since then, we’ve been designing most of our tools in-house, using our own knowledge and expertise. That way, you know you’re getting a tool that’s been thoughtfully developed.

You got this!

We’re proud to say we’ve already helped over 60,000 people on their journey to brewing delicious barista-style coffee at home.

And we’re just getting started — our goal is to support even more coffee lovers, both nationally and internationally, in finding their perfect coffee routine.

The people behind Barista-Essentials

  • Founder

    Hugo

Ever since I got my own espresso machine, I’ve been passionate about designing quality accessories to go with it.

I love restoring old espresso machines and helping friends get theirs running like a dream. That’s how the idea for Barista Essentials was born.

With the right tools, I want to help other home baristas find their way in the world of coffee.

  • Founder

    Jasper

Making great coffee with an espresso machine isn’t that hard—but it can definitely feel overwhelming at first.

I still remember the time I filled the portafilter of my De’Longhi Dedica with pre-ground filter coffee. What a difference it made when Hugo explained the basic espresso recipe to me…

Now, I want to guide other home baristas through those first bumps in the road—with helpful tips and clear, down-to-earth info.

  • Debbie

I’m responsible for all things visual and the overall look and feel of Barista Essentials. I also create the coffee recipes you’ll find on our website.

As a home barista, I love experimenting with recipes, tasting different coffees, and figuring out practical hacks to get the most out of the tools you already have.

  • Friso

As a product designer, I test and design the tools at Barista Essentials.

I’m a curious home barista with a background in mechanical engineering, and I love experimenting with flavors, brewing methods, and coffee gadgets. And when I’m not busy with coffee, you’ll probably find me out and about with my assistant, Pleun.

  • Niels

I’m Niels, and I take care of a lot of the practical tasks and odd jobs.

What I love about being a home barista is how you can put your own creative twist on everything (even if I’m not exactly a latte art pro—yet).

I’m currently studying Industrial Design at TU/e, and I hope to be involved in product development in the future.

  • Jose

As a copywriter, I make sure you get clear, helpful, and up-to-date info on all our tools.

Ever since I got a Sage Barista Pro at home, my coffee hobby has taken off. My espressos are more consistent now—and the sour faces from my coffee-drinking guests have become a rare sight. That’s a win-win.

  • Stéphanie

As a support team member and home barista in training, I totally get your coffee struggles—and I’m here to help with any coffee question you’ve got!

At home, I love experimenting in my little coffee corner—sometimes with great results, sometimes with surprises, but always with joy.

My ultimate goal? Brewing rich, flavorful coffee at home that rivals my favorite cafés!

  • Pleun

I regularly tag along with Friso to the office, where I never fail to put a smile on everyone’s face.

My favorite activities? Snacking on office plants and taking adorable naps—so cute that everyone quickly forgets about the plant part.
